Advent Calendar Scavenger Hunt

I have to admit, for YEARS, I’ve been trying to start this tradition but just never had the motivation to do it.

What am I talking about? Advent calendars! When I do something, I don’t like to give it minimal energy, I like to take it to the next level. Make it special. I might have a Martha Stewart complex deep down, ha!

So, this year when I was pulling out our Christmas decorations I noticed the wooden Christmas tree advent calendar that goes unnoticed, year after year. I decided it was time to put this thing to use, after all, we have had it for over a decade. Yikes!

Our advent is traditional. Has small drawers for “treats”. The problem with that is that we have three kids. There’s really not a great way to give them something fun that would fit in there. I’m talking REAL small drawers.

So, I thought, ok, next best thing- I’ll load up on a bunch of knickknacks from dollar tree and write out clues that I can place in the drawers. Instead of having to place the goodies in the drawers, I can hide them around the house and start a scavenger hunt tradition. That’s more our speed, anyway!

Let me tell you! I can’t wait to start this in December. It’s going to be so fun for them. Also, dollar tree has stepped up their game because I found A LOT of great items that I know my kids would still be into. Like pop it’s, ear buds for their chrome books, brain teaser wooden puzzles, and a ton of Disney items.

If you’re like us and enjoy a little fun with family traditions, give this idea a try! Sharing a video of how I plan to make this work.

Let me know what you think 🙂

XOXO, terri
