Winter Activities at the Omni Homestead
Last year we visited the Omni Homestead for the very first time. We had such an incredible experience that we knew we wanted to do it all over again.
We missed the chance to check out some of the winter activities last year because we visited a little too early in the season. Naturally when we booked this year, we made sure it was during peak time for all the snow fun.
There are SO many winter activities to choose from like ice skating and tubing! We couldn’t tackle all, but definitely experienced a handful of them.
Our family has never tried skiing before so that was top of our list. We even had a quick skiing lesson before trying it out on our own. Our instructor, Elfie, was incredible! She had so much patience with our fam of five and made sure we all felt extremely comfortable before attempting solo skiing. If your family loves to ski or snowboard, this is the perfect place for a ski weekend getaway! They have great ski package deals available too.
For those wondering, the resort has shuttles that are in constant rotation taking you to and from the resort to the ski lodge. At the ski lodge you can expect to find activities like skiing, snowboarding, tubing, snowmobiling (for kids), and obviously, the ski lift. They also have an on site restaurant that serves the most delicious barbecue!!
What to expect when skiing or snowboarding at the Omni Homestead…
YES: Ski rental equipment available (boots/skis/poles)
YES: Snowboarding rental equipment (snowboards/ boots/ helmets)
YES: Ski shop with accessories like goggles/ gloves/ etc…
YES: Ski lessons available
YES: trails for all types of skier levels available
NO: Ski clothes/ snow pant rental
Like I previously mentioned, our family had not been skiing before this, so we did not have the appropriate outfits when we first got to the resort. I know, I know, I could have planned and shopped for those items beforehand. However, I’m new at this and assumed the clothes were also part of the rental package. Ha! I was so wrong. Rookie mistake. It’s a good thing that happened though because due to our crisis, we were able to find the most amazing shop that sold EVERYTHING we needed and now I get to share that knowledge with you all.
So, if you find yourself at the Omni Homestead and forgot to pack the right ski clothes or want to take a peek at different options- you can visit the Walkabout Outfitters in Lexington, VA. It’s about an hour drive- a little bit of a hike, but this is in case of emergencies only haha.
There are also local shops in the resort (and near the resort) that are so special like Laura’s Boutique if you’re in the mood for shopping!
Outside of skiing, there are also plenty of fun activities back at the resort, like ice skating. We had so much fun skating that we went back multiple times! (Skate rental available)
We happened to be at the resort during a winter storm and got to see way more snow than we anticipated! It was glorious waking up to that blanket of white. It made our stay even more magical!
If you’re looking for a special winter getaway, this is THE best place! Great for families, girls weekend, romantic getaway, all the things.
I can’t tell you enough how much fun we had. We are looking forward to visiting again, soon, maybe catching it during a different season so we can experience other activities on the list.
